This course is specifically designed for students pursuing the doctoral program in Transpersonal Psychology. Its aim is to conduct a profound dialogue between the profound "Inner Sincerity and Outer Governance" wisdom of Confucianism and modern psychology. The course addresses the existential crises that modern people (especially those in middle age) commonly face, such as the loss of meaning, alienation in relationships, and the burden of ethics. It introduces the "reality" paradigm and the "ethics of daily life" thought emphasized by Confucianism, which highlights the overall interconnection of "Heaven, God, Man, Object, and Self". Through the exploration of pre-Qin classics, Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism, and contemporary new Confucianism regarding the ontology of the mind/heart and the cultivation of virtue, it guides learners to break free from the existing limitations of Transpersonal Psychology and traditional Chinese Taoism and Buddhism that tend towards an other-worldly lifestyle, and to learn to find spiritual stability within the most mundane relationships and responsibilities. Ultimately, students will be able to design psychological intervention and self-transformation plans that incorporate local cultural wisdom to address the pain points of the real society.
