Students who elect to add a concentration must declare their selected concentration before the conclusion of their 5th academic quarter. Students must make the request to add a concentration by emailing registrar@sofia.edu.
The student must have passed all previously attempted courses with a passing grade and be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress to be eligible to start the concentration courses. Students who have not successfully passed previously attempted courses will be requested to repeat and successfully pass those courses prior to starting the concentration courses.
Students will be required to complete a concentration declaration form where they will specify the requested concentration and provide a brief explanation of how this aligns with their academic goals. The request to add a concentration must be approved by an Academic Advisor and the Office of the Registrar. If the student is an F-1 international student, the request must also be approved by a DSO.
If approved, the student may also be required to sign an Addendum to their Enrollment Agreement to amend the student’s initial anticipated graduation date. F-1 International Students will receive an updated Form I-20 with the extended Program End Date after they complete the concentration declaration form. The selected concentration will be listed on the students Transcript and other academic records.
Each concentration will require the completion of 12 credits. Students will be required to first complete their mandatory core courses prior to starting the concentration courses. Course substitutions for concentration courses may only be permitted in exceptional circumstances if approved by the Program Chair.
If a student elects to add a second concentration, they must declare their second concentration immediately after having completed 6 credits in the first concentration. F-1 International Students must ensure they submit the request to add a second concentration at least one month prior to their current Program End Date stated in their Form I-20.
Students will require approval from their Academic Advisor and the Office of the Registrar if they wish to remove an approved concentration.
MATP students select at least one professional Concentration to focus their second year of study. As part of the Concentration, students complete the course MTP9041 Transpersonal Integration Paper, which enables students to demonstrate how transpersonal education can be integrated into community service. The following are the three primary Concentrations:
-
Creativity and Innovation
-
Spiritual Psychology
-
Leadership and Transformative Life Coaching
In addition to formal coursework in the Concentration, students are expected to embed concepts and skills of their chosen Concentration into the Transpersonal Integration Paper. If a Dual Concentration is chosen, both areas of inquiry must be embedded within the Transpersonal Integration Paper.
