Through reading, meditation,interview and case building, this course explores the essential qualities and characteristics of transpersonal leadership. Transpersonal leadership is characterized by the transformation of both the leader and the followers while traditional leadership theory assumes the authority of the leader and the obeyance of the followers. We will start with Ken Wilber’s theory of ego development stages (pre-conventional, conventional, post-conventional and unitive (transcendent) and personality theory (MBTI) to see corresponding leadership types. Following that we focus on servant leadership, mindful or conscious leadership. Finally we apply positive psychology to entrepreneurial mind in business. Besides reading academic articles, students will learn to meditate and build his/her own leadership case throughout the course. We hear from leaders who have brought intuition, empathy, servant leadership, worldview, social-emotional learning, cognitive biases, and other aspects of transpersonal psychology.
