Program Overview

The online Master’s in Global Leadership (MGLN) is a 1.5-year, full-time graduate program delivered over 6 terms. For full-time students, each term contains two three-credit courses.

The program is designed for emerging global leaders seeking to advance into senior, executive, or entrepreneurial roles in complex, international environments. The MGLN program integrates conscious leadership, systems thinking, peer mentoring, and transpersonal psychology tenets to prepare students to lead effectively in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world.

Program Description

In this century, global leaders are facing new and often uncertain and unpredictable opportunities that are characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA). Organizations have identified that conscious and responsive leadership capacities are critical to develop and refine in meeting this ambiguity in the marketplaces and in unique communities.

The online Master’s in Global Leadership (MGLN) supports leaders in developing skills to tackle these complex issues through systems thinking, consciousness, collaboration, empathy, adaptability, leadership development, and critical thinking. Together, these skills and insights contribute to meaningful engagement within organizations of any size and scope across the globe.

Global leaders develop the capacity to lead themselves and others by understanding complex global systems and complexity thinking. Global leaders are also positioned for leadership roles in markets that require global agility, adaptability, and unique leadership capacities in a broad range of sectors.

Courses are customized and learning explorations are widely varied through the engagement of experts in areas such as conflict resolution, strategic considerations, artificial intelligence, technology proliferation, rapidly changing governance, community development, geopolitics, and global civil society.

Program Requirements & Format for Distance Learning

Fully online (distance education)
Asynchronous coursework via Canvas
Weekly online engagement includes online discussions, case-based learning, and peer collaboration

No on-site residency required

Admission Requirements

Applicants are typically early-career to mid-career professionals with leadership or managerial experience and an interest in global, cross-cultural, and systems-based leadership.

Criteria for Admission and Prerequisites

Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.0. 
Applicants must reside in states approved by Sofia for the hybrid program (MGL). See the website.

Course Flow: Two-year Engagement for Full-time Engagement

Phase I: Conscious Leadership & Complex Systems (24 credits)

Focus on foundations of conscious leadership, critical thinking, personal leadership capacities, dialogue, collaboration, and organizational engagement, including an initial applied project.

Phase II: Global Business Values & Conscious Leadership (12 credits)

Focus on advanced leadership development, global economy and ethics, technology and innovation, systems change, and final capstone integration.

Capstone development begins in Year One and culminates in Year Two.

Capstone requirements: Through individualized directed studies, students will finalize a case study, organizational intervention, or research initiative that addresses a contemporary and pressing global leadership issue. The course culminates in a formal presentation and written report, serving as a professional artifact that illustrates the student’s growth and readiness to lead effectively as an executive in complex global environments. The Capstone requirements are introduced in Year One in MGL6070, and the final requirements are met in Year Two in MGL7070, the final term.
